Nelson Felix Presents 'Pedra de Rumo' Exhibition in São Paulo After Four-Year Hiatus

Brazilian artist Nelson Felix has returned to the exhibition circuit with a new solo show titled 'Pedra de Rumo' at Almeida & Dale gallery in São Paulo. This marks his first individual exhibition in four years, featuring over 60 previously unseen works that explore themes of orientation, displacement, and spirituality through sculpture, drawing, and cartography. The exhibition, which runs from March 21 to May 2, 2026, represents both a continuation and expansion of Felix's longstanding investigation into space, time, and materiality. Curated with critical text by Keyna Eleison, the show presents an expanded cartography approach where maps function as symbolic and affective constructions rather than mere territorial representations. The title 'Pedra de Rumo' references both a technical topography term and spiritual elements found in various cultures, particularly African diaspora religions. The exhibition is organized into different sections featuring diverse materials including marble, bronze, plant elements, and lead—a recurring material in Felix's practice—which serves as support for painting, drawing, and collage. Some works engage directly with the musicality and poetry of Dorival Caymmi, adding rhythmic and sensory dimensions. Another series titled '1/2 eu' incorporates cast iron with graphic images, creating hybrid pieces that move between sculpture, drawing, and photography. The exhibition functions as a prelude to Felix's upcoming show 'Beijo de Língua' at the Museum of Contemporary Art at the University of São Paulo (MAC USP), with the two venues forming an almost perfect cross alignment according to the artist's cartographic study. This spatial relationship, with its slight margin of error, informs the placement of works throughout the gallery. Felix's practice since the 1980s has developed as a continuous, evolving body of work where each piece connects to others in an ongoing artistic investigation. The exhibition is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 7pm and Saturdays from 11am to 4pm with free admission.
