Nearly 80,000 Celebrate LACMA’s Grand Opening Weekend

The Grand Opening Weekend for the David Geffen Galleries at LACMA attracted close to 80,000 attendees from June 18 to June 22. A standout event was the free Block Party on June 20, which brought in over 60,000 visitors. This celebration featured performances by Flying Lotus, DJ Harvey, and Roosevelt Cordova, along with the inaugural Los Angeles edition of The Art Parade, organized in partnership with Jeffrey Deitch, showcasing 146 projects and involving more than 1,600 participants. Among the notable contributors were Meow Wolf, FriendsWithYou, Bob Baker Marionette Theater, Kenny Scharf, and Shepard Fairey. Additional highlights included a discussion led by Annie Leibovitz, a dialogue between Thelma Golden and Michael Govan, and a performance by L.A. Dance Project. Tours of the new Wilshire/Fairfax station were provided by LA Metro.
