National Gallery Acquires First Angelica Kauffmann Since 1835; Cattelan Gets Berlin Museum Show

The National Gallery in London has received its first artwork by Angelica Kauffmann since 1835, through a donation from Dallas collectors Richard and Luba Barrett. This gift features Kauffmann's 'Achilles Discovered Among the Daughters of Lycomedes', marking the first historical piece by her in a national collection in the UK, alongside works by Ferdinand Hodler and Alexandre Calame, which will be displayed starting July 2. The gallery's last Kauffmann was lost during the 1941 Blitz after being transferred to Tate. In other news, Poltrona Frau has created 120 custom velvet seats for the new Fondation Cartier in Paris, which relocated to Place du Palais-Royal in October. Maurizio Cattelan's first museum exhibition in Germany, 'Maurizio Cattelan. NIGHT', will be held at Berlin's Neue Nationalgalerie from September 10, 2025, to March 7, 2027, in conjunction with his 2026 Preis der Nationalgalerie win. Frank Feltens will take over as chief curator at the Seattle Art Museum on August 17, succeeding José Carlos Diaz; he previously worked at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art. Tallinn Art Hall is set to reopen on November 13 after a €13 million renovation by KUU Architects, featuring a Black Box venue and KuKu Club, along with a new commission from Dénes Farkas.
