Nara Roesler Gallery Now Represents Brazilian Artist Flávia Ventura

Nara Roesler gallery has announced its representation of Brazilian artist Flávia Ventura. Born in 1991 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Ventura earned a BA in Fine Arts with a painting specialization from Escola Guignard (UEMG). Their artistic practice critically examines the body as a flexible instrument for sensory exploration, engaging with themes of sexuality, gender, power, and violence. Through painting, Ventura constructs abstract, body-mental landscapes that blend reality with fantasy. Their research involves a critical reinterpretation of hegemonic pornography, challenging the male gaze and normative sexual imaginaries by reconfiguring the symbolism and physicality of penetration. The work proposes shifts in discourse and agency, questioning regimes of visibility around the eroticization of bodies. Ventura's investigation extends to the articulation of bodies with nature and technology, exploring inorganic elements. The artist's practice is based on creating fictional narratives that exist between reality and fantasy, utilizing painting's expansive possibilities.
