Naomi Osaka debuted a custom white outfit at Wimbledon, designed by Tokyo-based Hana Yagi, inspired by Japanese ceremonial dress. The ensemble features embroidered cranes, cherry blossoms, a trailing bow, a traditional kanzashi hair ornament, and Mikimoto jewelry, with detachable layers revealing a Nike kit beneath. The design concept, 'Evolving Ceremony,' uses vintage shiromuku, kimono, and wedding dresses. Osaka's Nike dress incorporates kirigami paper-cutting techniques. Creative director Marty Harper collaborated with Yagi to reinterpret ceremonial garments for a modern athlete. Osaka views fashion as storytelling, and the outfit transitions from ceremony to competition in under a minute. Wimbledon's all-white dress code provided creative constraints that sharpened the design focus on material and silhouette.
