institutional · 2026-03-28

The MUSMA – Museo della Scultura Contemporanea in Matera is celebrating its twentieth anniversary with a series of initiatives. Located within a cave in the Sasso Caveoso district, this institution is recognized as Italy's foremost museum exclusively focused on contemporary sculpture. The anniversary program includes the 'Cambiamento' project, featuring creative interventions by artists Alberto Timossi, Agnese Purgatorio, and Giovanni Gaggia to revitalize the permanent collection. Additional highlights are an exhibition of the Lagorio Collection, which will bring new acquisitions to the museum, and a dedicated project from September to December 2026 showcasing works by Nanni Valentini titled 'Volto e luogo'. The museum is also collaborating with Moroccan artist Hassan Echair on the 'Atlante Babelico' project related to Tétouan, and will display a previously unseen sculpture by Carlo Levi from his Foundation.
