Music mogul Clive Davis dies at 94, discovered Whitney Houston

Clive Davis, the influential American record producer and talent scout who signed Whitney Houston to her first contract and revitalized numerous careers, died at 94 in his New York apartment. His agent Aliza Rabinoff confirmed the news. In 1974, Davis founded Arista Records, which became a leading label for R&B, driven by Houston's 260 million records sold. Arista later expanded into dance and hip hop, signing Annie Lennox, Kenny G, Dionne Warwick, Notorious B.I.G., and Puff Daddy (now Diddy). Davis was also known for reviving declining careers, including Miles Davis in the 1970s, Aretha Franklin in the 1980s, and Carlos Santana in the 1990s.
