Museum Wiesbaden Acquires Jawlensky's 1905 Füssen Painting with €125,000 Support
The Museum Wiesbaden has successfully obtained 'Bahnhof-Füssen im März,' a 1905 artwork by Alexej von Jawlensky, thanks to a €125,000 contribution from the Kulturstiftung der Länder. This significant piece, created during a pivotal phase in Jawlensky's artistic journey, showcases his influence from Vincent van Gogh. It is among twelve paintings inspired by Füssen, produced during a two-week visit in the spring of 1905 alongside Marianne von Werefkin. This acquisition marks the first Füssen artwork in the museum's collection, which boasts 116 Jawlensky works—the largest collection globally. Jawlensky resided in Wiesbaden from 1921 until his passing in 1941. In 2025, the museum assumed control of the Jawlensky Archive, previously overseen by his granddaughter, with additional support from the Hessische Kulturstiftung.
