Museum of Art Pudong to Host Major Giorgio Morandi Solo Exhibition in 2026

Museum of Art Pudong will present the largest Giorgio Morandi solo exhibition of the century, opening June 17, 2026. The show, titled 'Giorgio Morandi. Solo,' focuses on the Italian painter (1890–1964) known for his low-saturation, serene color palette—often called 'Morandi colors'—which has gained immense popularity in China as 'the most sophisticated color aesthetics in the world.' Morandi lived a reclusive life in Bologna, rarely leaving his hometown. He engaged with avant-garde and Metaphysical painting movements but ultimately developed his own aesthetic, creating infinite variations from limited subjects like bottles, flowers, and window views. His minimalist forms and subtle hues continue to transcend time.
