Museo Reina Sofía launches summer climate refuge with free access and flamenco

Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid has opened its second annual climate refuge, offering free access to the Sabatini Building's garden and cloister during summer 2026. The program includes outdoor cinema, flamenco performances, children's workshops, and guided tours. The film series 'La piscina: nadar o hundirse' runs Fridays and Saturdays in July and August in the garden, featuring works by Blake Edwards, Frank Perry, Sofia Coppola, and Lucrecia Martel. Flamenco performances occur every Monday from July 6 to August 24, organized with Madrid City Council's Área de Cultura, Turismo y Deporte. Children's workshops include 'Solar 5. Dulce fantasma' (June 30–July 10) inspired by Felix Gonzalez-Torres, and 'Savia 3, Mapas para jugar un museo' runs through September 6. Current exhibitions include 'Entes' by Aurèlia Muñoz, 'Dulce venganza' on Felix Gonzalez-Torres, and 'La Perla Peregrina' by Fernando Sánchez Castillo at the renovated Palacio de Velázquez. The museum's Colección has a new fourth floor with 'Arte contemporáneo: 1975-presente' and a mediation space 'Alhacena' designed by Jorge Penadés. Key works on view include Picasso's Guernica, Ángeles Santos's Un mundo, Dalí's Figura en la ventana, and Dumile Feni's Guernica africano. The Palacio de Cristal is closed for renovations.
