Munich's Neumeister Auction House Announces Closure After 66 Years

The Munich-based auction house Neumeister is ceasing operations after more than six decades in business. Managing partner Katrin Stoll cited personal reasons for the decision, explaining that discussions about alternative solutions proved unproductive and that her children have chosen career paths outside the family enterprise. The closure follows the dissolution of the family's private ownership and inheritance structure, which has already led to the sale of the auction house's property on Barerstraße in Munich along with other real estate holdings. Founded in 1958 by Rudolf Neumeister, the firm built a reputation for successfully auctioning art and decorative objects from all historical periods. Stoll joined the family business in 1983 and acquired her sisters' shares in 2008. She earned significant recognition within the art world for her contributions to provenance research, particularly regarding the firm's examination of its predecessor company Weinmüller during the Nazi era. The final summer auction will proceed as scheduled on June 24, with all business activities concluding on October 31.
