Muller Van Severen presents oversized aluminium candelabras at Milan Design Week exhibition

Belgian design duo Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen will showcase a collection of 15 human-scale aluminium candelabras during Milan Design Week. The exhibition, titled Silhouettes: Celebrating 15 Years, runs from April 18 to 26, 2026 at the Ordet arts space in Milan, Italy. Tim Van Laere Gallery presents the show in collaboration with publishing house Apartamento. These oversized candle holders reference earlier works like the Duo Seat, Rocking Chair, Wire furniture series, and Bridges cabinet for BD Barcelona. Made entirely from aluminium, the pieces feature large colored candles that create a temporal dimension as they burn. The project emerged from the designers' work with Apartamento on their upcoming monograph A Lot of Work, where recurring forms from their 15-year collaboration became inspiration. Muller and Van Severen began working together in 2011, creating sculptural furniture that explores form, space, and interaction with everyday objects. They describe the exhibition as a return to their artistic roots and a moment of reflection on familiar forms from their oeuvre. The duo is currently preparing another exhibition for Tim Van Laere Gallery in Rome featuring sculptural wooden cabinets with integrated lighting. Previous projects include a temporary takeover of a modernist villa near Lille, France, and furniture collections made from shaped aluminium pipes.
