Mongolia Pavilion Reveals 2026 Venice Biennale Exhibition with Four Artists Exploring Historical and Ecological Themes

The Mongolia Pavilion has announced its artistic lineup for the 61st Venice Biennale in 2026. Four Mongolian artists—Nomin Bold, Dorjderem Davaa, Gerelkhuu Ganbold, and Tuguldur Yondonjamts—will present the exhibition titled 'Entanglements: Connectivities Across Borders.' The show is curated by Uranchimeg Tsultem and Thomas Eller. The exhibition will examine interspecies relationships, spiritual themes, and cross-border exchanges, with particular attention to historical connections between the Mongol Empire and Venice during the thirteenth century. Each artist brings distinct approaches: Nomin Bold employs the traditional Mongol zurag painting technique to address modern topics like urbanization and consumerism; Dorjderem Davaa incorporates natural elements and mythological references using materials such as goat skin and animal horns; Gerelkhuu Ganbold merges folk motifs with imagery from video games and science fiction; and Tuguldur Yondonjamts creates works that investigate Central Asian heritage, paleontology, and ecological issues. According to a press statement, the presentation aims to reconsider Mongolia as a fluid space of interaction rather than a static location, reflecting on migration, coexistence, and human-nonhuman dynamics in an era of political divides and environmental challenges. The exhibition is commissioned by Baigali Ochkhuu, founder and president of the International Women’s Federation of Commerce and Industry Mongolia. It will be on view from May 9 to November 22, 2026, in Venice.
