Monet and Contemporary Artists Explore Nature at Caillebotte Estate Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-02

The Maison Caillebotte in Yerres, Essonne, approximately twenty kilometers from Paris, is hosting an ambitious exhibition from May 9 to October 18, 2026. This presentation connects Claude Monet's historical visit to the property in 1876 with the work of eight contemporary artists. Monet stayed at the eleven-hectare landscaped park, which later influenced the design of his famous garden in Giverny. The exhibition features around sixty artworks, including paintings, prints, and sculptures, centered on the shared belief that nature represents a dynamic force rather than a mere backdrop. Key loans include Monet's Water Lilies from the Musée Marmottan. The contemporary participants are Ronan Barrot, Malgorzata Paszko, Evi Keller, and Érik Desmazières, among others, each offering distinct perspectives on natural themes. Their works engage with Monet's legacy by exploring invisible energies within the environment. The estate, where Gustave Caillebotte spent his childhood summers, is organizing complementary activities throughout the season. These include boating on the Yerres river, which Caillebotte frequently painted, available on weekends and holidays from May to June. Impressionist painting workshops allow participants to paint outdoors where Caillebotte worked, while gardening sessions in the vegetable plot that inspired him are scheduled for May. The exhibition is held at the Orangerie on the property, with free admission from Tuesday to Sunday.
