MoMA Adds Six Mexican Architecture Firms to Its Permanent Collection

The Museum of Modern Art in New York has acquired 160 objects documenting eleven projects by six Mexican architecture studios. The acquisition includes models, physical and digital drawings, and photographs representing work from Colectivo C733, Estudio Macías Peredo, Productora, TAX (Alberto Kalach), Tatiana Bilbao Estudio, and Taller de Arquitectura Mauricio Rocha. This addition marks a significant moment for contemporary Mexican architecture within one of the world's most influential collections, which historically includes works by figures like Luis Barragán. The MoMA's Department of Architecture and Design, established in 1932, now holds approximately 28,000 objects. Mexican curator Ana Elena Mallet, who joined the department's acquisitions committee in 2021, has contributed to this increased focus on Mexican design.
