MINOR Lab Designs Fushan Coffee Retail Space in Haikou
Architecture firm MINOR lab has completed a retail interior project for Fushan Coffee in Haikou, Hainan Province. The 211-square-meter space, finished in 2025, was commissioned by the coffee brand to serve as a narrative medium conveying its historical and cultural significance. Curated by Han Shuang, the design team included Chen Liu as design principal, Dan Zhao as project manager and site supervisor, and Weixi Jin. The project is situated in a coastal city characterized by tropical vegetation, approximately sixty kilometers from Fushan Town, the historical center of Hainan's coffee cultivation dating to the 1970s. The architects aimed to create an environment where visitors could engage with the brand's agricultural heritage and local identity through material choices and spatial arrangement. Photographs of the completed work were taken by Arch Nango. This initiative represents a contemporary reinterpretation of a longstanding regional tradition, integrating commercial function with cultural storytelling.
