Mini Art Museum Exhibition at Contemporary at Blue Star Showcases 61 San Antonio Artists Through June 2026

The Contemporary at Blue Star in San Antonio presents "Mini Art Museum," an exhibition featuring nearly 100 business card-sized artworks from the collection of the Mini Art Museum, founded by Mary Cantú and Gabriela Santiago in 2013. Curated by Jacqueline Saragoza McGilvray, the show transforms the gallery into a miniature neighborhood with 11 distinct galleries, requiring viewers to actively navigate and sometimes bend to examine pieces. The exhibition includes works by 61 prominent San Antonio artists such as Vincent Valdez, Hiromi Stringer, Gary Sweeney, and Celeste De Luna, with magnifying glasses provided for close inspection. Mary Cantú, who passed away in 2025, established the Mini Art Museum as a traveling teaching institution that brought art to schools and communities worldwide. The playful installation includes cardboard cutouts referencing local art figures and creates an immersive experience that balances joy with serious art historical rigor. Chris Castillo, a former intern, described Cantú as a "force" who encouraged ambitious ideas. The exhibition runs through June 7, 2026, and serves as a tribute to Cantú's legacy of promoting San Antonio culture and increasing arts accessibility.
