Mindfulness Meditation with Jon Aaron at Rubin Museum
Every week, the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art offers a mindfulness meditation session titled Lasting Happiness, guided by Jon Aaron at noon. This session showcases an 18th-century Tibetan artwork depicting the Fifth Dalai Lama (1617–1682), who played a pivotal role in unifying Tibet in 1642 and establishing a government led by the Dalai Lama. The painting represents his journey from the Potala Pure Land to his mother’s womb. All Dalai Lamas are regarded as manifestations of Avalokiteshvara, a bodhisattva dedicated to fostering enduring happiness for all beings. Since 2006, Jon Aaron has been a Dharma and mindfulness instructor based in New York, Chicago, and online, with expertise in both Theravada and Mahayana traditions. He also advises the University of Chicago's Spiritual Life Office and co-hosts the podcast Diggin' the Dharma.
