Milan Launches Public Tender for 10 New Neighborhood Bookstores Across City Districts

The city government of Milan has greenlit a public tender for the establishment of ten new neighborhood bookstores, utilizing municipal properties throughout all districts. Available spaces range from 30 to 190 square meters and can be leased or granted to individuals, companies, cooperatives, and consortiums involved in the book industry. This effort is part of the Sefémm program, which has provided over 150 locations in the past four years. Micro-enterprises will receive priority, with 70% of the evaluation focused on cultural and social initiatives. Successful candidates must blend book offerings with social functions. Cultural Commissioner Tommaso Sacchi and Municipal Assets Commissioner Emmanuel Conte highlighted the initiative's aim to bolster independent bookstores and improve urban quality. Selected sites include Via Scaldasole and Via Palmanova, among others.
