Milan Design Studio (AB)NORMAL Creates Compact Italian Residence with Continuous Wood Skin

architecture-design · 2026-04-02

The Milan-based multidisciplinary design studio (AB)NORMAL has completed Casa B, a residential project in Northern Italy. Founded in 2017 by Mattia Inselvini, Davide Masserini, and Luigi Savio, the studio initially focused on graphic novels before expanding into spatial design, architecture, and interiors. Their portfolio includes designing Versace runway shows, custom furniture for New York's WSA building, Vogue Italia's closet, and Gufram's installation at Salone del Mobile 2024. For Casa B, the studio organized the compact home around a series of boxes containing the bedroom, children's room, kitchen, and bathroom. A continuous skin of Okumè wood was introduced to conceal doors and portals, creating fluid circulation throughout the residence. The project maintains the studio's characteristic unconventional approach while addressing domestic needs. This work represents the firm's evolution from experimental 3D object storytelling to comprehensive spatial solutions.
