Mikołaj Sobczak's 'Ancora' at Capitain Petzel

Mikołaj Sobczak's second solo exhibition, titled 'Ancora' (which translates to 'again' or 'still' in Italian), will take place at the Capitain Petzel gallery in Berlin. This exhibition features three large-scale paintings that were initially commissioned by the Salzburger Kunstverein and debuted in 2025 as part of 'Moon, Sun, Mercury', with backing from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Poland. Sobczak's art intricately weaves together historical events and modern themes, emphasizing the repetitive nature of historical narratives. He explores various connections across different eras—ranging from political figures and celebrities to pop culture, technology, and memes. Included in the collection are 'Moon (Propaganda)' and 'Sun (Magic)', which combine historical allegories, queer identities, and social commentary into a rich visual language.
