Micron validates growth of Chinese chipmakers CXMT and YMTC
Micron Technology, a major US memory chip supplier, acknowledged the growing capabilities and market share of Chinese competitors CXMT and YMTC during an earnings call on Wednesday. Chief business officer Sumit Sadana stated that both firms have improved over the years, though most of their output remains within China. This validation comes as AI infrastructure spending tightens the memory market. Micron reported record fiscal third-quarter revenue of $41.46 billion, up from $23.86 billion the previous quarter and $9.30 billion a year earlier, and forecast record fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $50 billion. CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said tight conditions are expected to persist beyond calendar 2027 due to AI-driven demand and structural supply constraints. Micron is one of three major high-bandwidth memory (HBM) suppliers, alongside SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics.
