Michael Moravek Releases German-Language Concept Album 'GEORG' About Resistance Fighter Georg Elser

Singer-songwriter Michael Moravek has released his first German-language album titled 'GEORG,' a complete concept work dedicated to the life and actions of resistance fighter Georg Elser. The album's release on April 10, 2026, intentionally coincides with the anniversary of Elser's death on April 9. Moravek, previously known for English-language autobiographical works, marks a new artistic chapter by tackling historical material for the first time. The project originated from a 2023 theater play about Elser, created with director Bernd Wengert, for which Moravek wrote his initial German texts. 'GEORG' consists of ten songs and one instrumental piece, unfolding a dense, dramatically structured narrative about Elser, who attempted to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1939 and was subsequently executed at Dachau concentration camp. The opening track 'Postkarte aus München' uses a postcard Elser carried from the Bürgerbräukeller as a narrative key. Moravek's lyrics combine dark, poetic force with historical facts and imaginative elements, creating a multifaceted portrait that avoids simplification while exposing the banality of evil. The album serves as a musical monument against forgetting and for humanity, connecting music and history to make historical events newly accessible. In an era of increasing political radicalization, the work functions as both a retrospective and a commentary on the present.
