Meyer Davis Designs Signature Restaurant at Charleston's First Luxury Waterfront Hotel

The Cooper, Charleston's inaugural luxury waterfront hotel, opened on March 30 in Charleston, South Carolina, featuring 191 rooms, a private marina, a spa, and four dining venues. Its signature restaurant, The Crossing, designed by New York-based architecture and design firm Meyer Davis, offers 205 seats across multiple areas, including dining rooms, a cocktail bar, a raw bar, and an outdoor terrace. The design draws inspiration from yachts, incorporating teak millwork, a crystal light sculpture resembling a sail, and Honey Onyx surfaces that mimic marshland views. Meyer Davis cofounders Gray Davis and Will Meyer aimed to create intimate spaces reflecting Southern hospitality, using light woods, blue accents, and metallic finishes to evoke a coastal aesthetic. Executive Chef Nick Dugan, also of local restaurant Sorelle, leads the kitchen with a Mediterranean-influenced menu highlighting local seafood and ingredients, featuring dishes like Greek yogurt bowls, mezze, and whole Carolina Snapper. The restaurant, located on the hotel's second floor, is open to the public and intended as a social hub, with Meyer noting its alignment with Charleston's communal spirit. The hotel also offers guest excursions on luxury vessels, including a Hinckley yacht, and features local artistic touches such as a custom marsh mural by decorative painter Lonesome Pictoria.
