Mexico's National Museum of Anthropology explores ancient ballgame in new exhibition

On July 2, 2026, the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City launched “Tlachtli. Spaces of the Sacred Game,” an exhibition exploring the cultural and ritual importance of the pre-Hispanic ballgame. This event is organized by Mexico’s Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). The display includes 24 aerial photographs taken by Santiago Arau Pontones and 10 archaeological artifacts. Arau’s work links historic ceremonial sites to the modern Mexican environment. Visitors can view the exhibition until August 2, 2026.
