Meta Unveils Cheaper In-House Smart Glasses Without Ray-Ban Branding

ai-technology · 2026-06-25

Meta has launched two new AI smart glasses models, the Meta Adventurer and Fury, designed in-house without Ray-Ban branding and priced at $299—$80 less than the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer. The glasses are manufactured by EssilorLuxottica SA, whose logo appears on the inside temple arms and packaging. Meta also introduced a $399 Starfire model in collaboration with Kylie Jenner to attract younger consumers. Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth stated that reaching consumers involves both design and price point. According to Bloomberg, Meta is considering a camera-free version focused on audio features like phone calls and AI interactions, which could lower costs and enable more styles. Alex Himel, head of Meta's wearables unit, noted that a larger market allows for more varied products. Himel also confirmed that Meta has explored facial-recognition technology for glasses, known internally as "Name Tag," but said it is not in active development due to privacy and societal concerns. Over 70 advocacy organizations have urged Meta to abandon such plans, warning of risks to privacy and public safety.
