Meta has revealed that it will automatically turn off the camera on its second-generation smart glasses if the blinking LED recording indicator is obstructed or altered. This decision addresses concerns regarding the devices being misused for covert recordings, particularly instances of men filming women without their permission. According to a blog post from Meta, the camera becomes inoperative when the LED is blocked, preventing any photos or videos from being captured until the obstruction is removed. Additionally, the company plans to eliminate advertisements and marketplace listings that promote tampering and will pursue legal action against those providing modification services. This announcement follows an incident involving a woman named Oonagh from the UK, who was recorded without consent; the video garnered over a million views on TikTok. Recently, Meta also introduced a more affordable range of its AI smart glasses.
