Met Taps Danh Vo and Sandra Mujinga for 2027 Facade and Great Hall Commissions
Danh Vo has been selected to create works for the four niches of the Beaux-Arts facade as part of the Genesis Facade Commission, which will take place from September 16, 2027, to June 13, 2028. The Metropolitan Museum of Art revealed these two commissions for its Fifth Avenue facade and Great Hall. Vo, who operates from Berlin and Mexico City, focuses on historical and found objects—such as religious artifacts, photographs, and ancient fragments—to explore the accumulation of power and meaning over time. This marks his eighth facade commission, following artists like Wangechi Mutu and Carol Bove. Additionally, Oslo-based Sandra Mujinga will produce a site-specific installation for the Great Hall, scheduled for November 4, 2027, to April 4, 2028.
