Merz Akademie in Stuttgart Files for Insolvency, Seeks to Continue Operations

On Tuesday, the Stuttgart District Court approved the Merz Akademie's request for preliminary self-administration insolvency. This move aims to maintain operations and ensure the institution's financial stability, which has been challenged by inadequate funding, a drop in student enrollment, and lost partnerships. It is important to note that only Merz Akademie gGmbH is impacted; the Merz Schule, Merz Berufskolleg, and Merz Bildungswerk are not affected. Under judicial oversight, management continues with attorney Philipp Grub from Grub Brugger providing assistance. Efforts will be directed towards maintaining the university's identity and creating a sustainable economic framework. Managing Director Andrea Zweifel highlighted this as a chance for financial restructuring. The Merz Akademie was re-established in 1983 and gained state recognition in 1985.
