Meryl Streep to Lead Netflix Adaptation of Jonathan Franzen's 'The Corrections'

Netflix has acquired the television adaptation of Jonathan Franzen's 2001 novel 'The Corrections,' ordering it straight to series without a pilot phase. The limited series will feature three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep in a starring role. Cord Jefferson, known for 'American Fiction,' will direct the project, with Franzen himself writing the screenplay. The announcement was made by Netflix on Thursday, marking the culmination of a development process that began in 2024 after the project was previously shopped to various studios. The story centers on a Midwestern family whose adult children struggle with their mother's desire for a final Christmas gathering, each grappling with personal ambitions. This adaptation arrives 25 years after the novel's publication, which earned Franzen the National Book Award. Previous attempts to bring the book to screen, including an HBO version directed by Noah Baumbach with actors like Ewan McGregor and Greta Gerwig attached, were abandoned due to challenges in adapting the narrative style. No release date has been set yet. Streep recently provided voice work for films such as 'Hoppers' and 'Project Hail Mary,' and will appear in the sequel to 'The Devil Wears Prada,' scheduled for release on May 1, alongside returning cast members Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.
