Media Art Producer Asher Remy-Toledo Dies at 62, Leaving Legacy of Digital Art Initiatives

Asher Remy-Toledo, a New York-based cultural producer and founder of Hyphen Hub, passed away on February 22 in Medellín, Colombia at age 62. His death from Hodgkin's lymphoma was confirmed by his organization on February 27. Over three decades, he established several influential media art projects including the Remy Toledo Gallery in Chelsea from 2004-2007, which showcased feminist artists like Carolee Schneemann and Ana Mendieta. In 2013, he co-founded Hyphen Hub, an interactive audio-visual club that evolved from the historic Red Door venue. His recent work included curating a Latin American section at Ars Electronica in Austria and organizing the Imagenfest in Medellín. He is survived by his partner Stephen McGroarty.
