May Yeung's Sculptural Practice Explores Cultural Synthesis and Distilled Form

Sculptor May Yeung creates abstract works that reflect her multicultural background and artistic influences. Born in Australia and raised in Hong Kong, she studied at the University of Chicago, where political science informed her visual practice. Her sculptures employ materials like wood, cold porcelain, and glass to explore themes of memory, fragility, and resilience. Influenced by Henri Matisse and Claude Monet, Yeung's work emphasizes simplified forms and emotional color palettes. Her piece 'Hear Monet' will be shown at Collect Hong Kong in March 2026, while 'Blue Bridge' is scheduled for exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in June 2026. She will also present 'Izumi' at Art Central this year and 'Silence in Full Bloom' at the Carrousel du Louvre following her collaboration with the French May Arts Festival.
