Matti Bye Explores Consciousness and Sound on New Album The Length Between Dusk and Dawn in Minutes

publication · 2026-09-14

Matti Bye, a Swedish composer and pianist, has unveiled his solo album titled The Length Between Dusk and Dawn in Minutes, released under the Neue Meister label and distributed by Edel Music & Entertainment GmbH. This new work marks a shift from his earlier trilogy—Bethanien, This Forgotten Land, and Capri Clouds—re-exploring the piano's role as an immediate resonator. Drawing inspiration from Debussy, Ravel, and lesser-known British acid-folk music, the album was recorded over three winter days at Kulturhuset i Ytterjärna, featuring a Bösendorfer piano. Influences from Proust, T. S. Eliot, and Henri Bergson are evident, with Bye describing the sound as psychedelic, highlighting slowness as a form of resistance to distraction. The production involved Anders af Klintberg and sound engineer Johan Hällgren.
