Matéria Base Designs Matita-Perê House in Joanópolis

architecture-design · 2026-06-04

Matéria Base has finalized the Matita-Perê House, a 497 m² residential structure located in Joanópolis, Brazil, completed in 2024. Situated in the Mantiqueira Mountains, it lies close to the land of the 'Werewolf,' where the Matita-Perê's distinct whistle can be heard. The architectural concept is inspired by the natural landscape, manifesting as a blend of volume, space, and dwelling. The design aimed to create a seamless transition between the hustle of urban life and the tranquility of rural living, accommodating a new lifestyle. Structural engineering was managed by Geraldo Filizola, with electrical work by Fernando D. Pereira, MEP/installations by Murilo B. Jarreta, and environmental sustainability overseen by José Renato Meister. Artesania, Oziel e equipe served as the general contractor, while Manuel Sá provided photography, and Susanna Moreira curated the project.
