MASP presents Claudia Alarcón & Silät's textile exhibition weaving ancestral Wichí techniques with contemporary art

From March 6 to August 2, 2025, the Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP) will host "Claudia Alarcón & Silät: viver tecendo." This exhibition showcases 25 pieces created by Argentine artist Claudia Alarcón alongside Silät, a group comprised of over one hundred Wichí weavers, marking their first appearance in Brazil. Curated by Adriano Pedrosa and Laura Cosendey, the display incorporates chaguar fibers and traditional hand-weaving methods, featuring innovations like bright aniline dyes and collaborative practices. Standout works include Kates tsinhay — Mujeres estrellas (2023) and Hilulis ta llhaiematwek — Un coro de yicas (2024-25). The exhibit highlights the Wichí notion of tayhi and requires online ticket purchases, offering free entry on Tuesdays and Friday evenings.
