MASI Lugano presents first major posthumous retrospective of Kaari Upson

The first significant posthumous exhibition of American artist Kaari Upson (1970-2021) is currently taking place at MASI Lugano. Upson, who gained prominence in Europe following her participation in the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019, is regarded as one of the most compelling and unique voices of her time. Throughout her career, which lasted just over fifteen years, she engaged in sculpture, video, drawing, and installation, crafting a complex visual language that delves into themes such as relationships, the body, illness, and loss. Her art, which oscillates between intimacy and alienation, creates a disquieting world where mundane objects and spaces serve as vessels for obsession and trauma. The exhibition at MASI presents her complete body of work, organized into five broadly chronological sections.
