Maryhill Museum of Art Celebrates 100 Years of Eccentric Collections

Maryhill Museum of Art in southern Washington marks its centennial in 2026 with a series of events. Founded by entrepreneur Sam Hill, modern dance pioneer Loïe Fuller, patron Alma de Bretteville Spreckels, and Queen Marie of Romania, the museum opened on November 3, 1926. Its collections include over 80 works by Auguste Rodin, Romanian folk garments, Native American baskets, and the Théâtre de la Mode mannequins. The museum also features a full-scale Stonehenge replica built by Hill as a World War I memorial, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021. Executive Director Amy Behrens highlighted the founders' influence and recent acquisitions of Central American textiles. The museum is open March 15 to November 15 in Goldendale, WA, 120 miles east of Portland.
