Mary Whyte's New Book and Gibbes Museum Exhibition Offer Creative Insights

Award-winning watercolorist Mary Whyte has published a new book, 'An Artist's Life,' featuring 70 portraits and previously unseen works. The book includes four tips for creative success: find your own voice, practice fundamentals, draw constantly, and overcome self-doubt. Whyte's concurrent exhibition 'Salt of the Earth' at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, S.C., runs through September 27th. For the show, she created charcoal wall drawings of sunflowers and a 'Life' series of five watercolor paintings resembling collages, accompanied by a looping video of her process. Whyte, who founded The Patriot Art Foundation in 2019, has increasingly incorporated abstraction and multimedia into her practice.
