Mary's Room Exhibition at Nuun Gallery Explores Philosophy Through Five Artists

Nuun Gallery, a new apartment gallery in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, presents 'Mary's Room' from November 20, 2025, to January 23, 2026. Curated by Nana Cheon and Cori Cannavino, the exhibition draws inspiration from philosopher Frank Jackson's 1986 thought experiment 'What Mary Didn't Know,' examining how value systems assign meaning. The show features five artists: Naomi Hawksley presents graphite drawings like 'Untitled (Rule 1)' (2023) and 'Untitled (Floor)' (2024), the latter displayed jutting from the wall. Rosalie Smith exhibits found object sculptures such as 'Battery Powered Monument' (2025). Faith Hughes creates small oil paintings on tiles set in Civil War reenactment candle holders. Lau Mota contributes a video compilation of erotic Flickr content titled 'the great path to a foreign body' (2025). Lily Bix-Daw shows self-portrait oil paintings. An additional video work by Mv4u (Missvideo4u) is accessible via USB drive. Located on the sixth floor of Cheon's apartment, the gallery is a one-room space with a rooftop balcony, accessible by appointment near the Hoyt-Schermerhorn subway station. The exhibition reflects a broader trend of alternative apartment galleries gaining prominence in New York.
