Martin Margiela's Personal Archive to Be Auctioned in Paris

So, on July 9, during Paris couture week, Martin Margiela’s personal collection will be up for auction at Maurice Auction, in collaboration with Kerry Taylor Auctions. This event, featuring 195 items, could bring in as much as €412,000 (around $479,000). Among the highlights is his original portfolio from 1987, which includes surreal collages and early Tabi shoe designs. This portfolio was actually stolen from a train and returned a year later, estimated at €8,000 ($9,300). Other notable pieces include a white smock worn by Margiela, a rotary phone with his number, and "Graffiti" Tabi boots from a 1991 exhibition. Plus, there are 60 Hermès items belonging to his mother, Léa Bouchet. A special exhibition will run from July 4 to 8, showcasing these treasures. Margiela, who stepped back from fashion in 2014, mentioned he felt it was time to part with some of his memorabilia.
