Marinella Senatore's Participatory Exhibition at Cavalese Museum Explores Community Through Art

Marinella Senatore presents the exhibition 'There is so much we can learn from the sun' at the contemporary art museum in Cavalese, curated by museum director Elsa Barbieri. The project is a participatory endeavor that emerged from two workshops conducted by the artist in October 2025, involving local residents of various ages who shared memories, ideas, and reflections on community. The exhibition features works created between 2019 and 2025, displayed across three floors of Palazzo Rizzoli, which houses the museum established in 2001. The museum's initial collection includes works by Bruno Munari and other post-war artists from the collection of Dr. Giancarlo Baccoli. Senatore's practice integrates anthropology, sociology, psychology, history, and politics, focusing on oral histories, rituals, songs, and local expressive forms. Key installations include 'I Contain Multitudes' (2025), a site-specific piece with fabric banners on local fir poles featuring multilingual community messages, and 'Alliance des corps' (2021), a light installation in the museum's entrance. The central collage 'There is so much we can learn from the sun' (2025) gives the exhibition its title. Other works include 'Make it shine' (2023), glass light sculptures, neon pieces like 'Breathe, U Are Enough' (2022), and the sculpture 'Autoritratto' (2022). The exhibition emphasizes viewer activation, transforming spectators into participants in the artistic process.
