Marinella Senatore's Festive Procession Dances Through L'Aquila

On June 7, 2026, artist Marinella Senatore (born 1977 in Cava de' Tirreni) activated the city of L'Aquila with a performance of her project SOND School Of Narrative Dance, which began in 2012 and has been staged in over 20 countries. The festive procession started at MAXXI L'Aquila, made six stops including Fontana Luminosa and Basilica di Collemaggio, and traversed the Abruzzo capital for four hours. Over 500 participants—including community associations, sign language interpreters, performance and sports groups, volunteers, embroiderers, choirs, parkour practitioners, majorettes, opera singers, students from the Conservatorio A. Casella and the Accademia di Belle Arti, and film students from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia—animated the historic center. An estimated 10,000 spectators attended. Curated by Chiara Bertini and realized by MAXXI L'Aquila in collaboration with the Comune, the project was a highlight of L'Aquila Capitale italiana della Cultura 2026. Until September 13, 2026, the MAXXI L'Aquila project room hosts a focus on Senatore featuring drawings, watercolors, photographs, videos, archival materials, and an unprecedented tapestry donated by the artist to the Comune.
