Maria Antonietta: un destino tragico tra gli splendori di Versailles
Maria Antonietta, born in Vienna on November 2, 1755, and executed in Paris on October 16, 1793, is often perceived as a tragic figure rather than merely the frivolous queen of legend. At the age of fourteen, she wed Louis XVI to solidify an alliance between the Habsburg and French monarchies. She encountered hostility from the French aristocracy and was subjected to strict etiquette rules. The marriage remained unconsummated for several months, which tarnished her reputation. In 1775, the king presented her with the "Petit Trianon." Her extravagant lifestyle and social engagements made her a scapegoat for the state’s troubles. During the Revolution, she endured the loss of her son and her husband's condemnation, appearing aged and insulted at her treason trial.
