Margo Handwerker Named Director of Glassell School of Art at MFAH

Effective immediately, Margo Handwerker has been named the director of the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH). Handwerker had been serving as the interim director following Paul Coffey's exit earlier this year. Since 2024, she has been at the helm of the Glassell School's Core residency program for artists and critics. In her new capacity, she will manage the school's three divisions: the Junior School (pre-K to grade 12), the Studio School (adults), and the Core residency for emerging professional artists. Collectively, these programs accommodate nearly 9,000 enrollments and generate around 20 exhibitions each year. MFAH director Gary Tinterow commended Handwerker for her leadership during her interim period and her management of the Core program.
