Marcie Begleiter's debut museum exhibition at San Luis Obispo Museum of Art

From July 3 to October 17, 2026, the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art will host 'Chimera: The Future of Nature,' marking the first museum exhibition of Central Coast artist Marcie Begleiter. This showcase includes a collection of films, photographs, and sculptures that explore the impact of climate change on the environment. Begleiter gathers natural items—like bones, seed pods, and dried flora—to create intricate, altered landscapes. These handcrafted environments, along with her field photography, provide the foundation for five short films that utilize digital animation to introduce elements like wind, water, and movement, merging documentary with a dreamlike essence. Her work is firmly rooted in climate science research.
