MAR Museum in Ravenna Launches Permanent Gallery for Fashion Photographer Paolo Roversi

The MAR (Museo d'Arte) in Ravenna, Italy, has established a permanent gallery dedicated to the work of fashion photographer Paolo Roversi. The gallery, named Galleria Paolo Roversi, is curated by Chiara Bardelli Nonino and will officially open on May 20. This initiative honors Roversi, a globally influential contemporary photographer born in Ravenna in 1947, who has lived and worked in Paris since 1973. The gallery aims to showcase his poetic and visual universe, emphasizing light, atmosphere, and memory, and serves as an evolution from the museum's previous exhibition 'Paolo Roversi – Studio Luce' held between 2020 and 2021. The space, designed by scenographer Ania Martchenko with lighting by Silvestrin & Associati, features a labyrinthine layout including areas like the Studio, Archive, and Room of the Muses, displaying portraits of figures such as Kate Moss, Stella Tennant, and Naomi Campbell. The project is supported by collaborations with the City of Ravenna, international professionals, and the European Value Plus project under the Interreg Italy-Croatia program. It seeks to strengthen Ravenna's connection to contemporary visual arts and attract photography enthusiasts and scholars worldwide. Roversi's career, noted for decades of technical study and experimentation in fashion photography, includes long-term collaborations like that with Dior, and his aesthetic is influenced by Ravenna's mosaics and misty atmosphere.
