Manon Awst and Dylan Huw Present Peatland-Inspired Installation for Wales at 61st Venice Biennale

Wales will be represented by Manon Awst and Dylan Huw at the 61st Venice Biennale with their installation titled 'Sownd,' located at the Istituto Santa Maria della Pietà from 9 May to 22 November 2026. This installation, crafted from materials sourced from the peatlands of north Wales, delves into cultural expressions from marginalized contexts. Visitors will traverse a wooden boardwalk linking three rooms, reminiscent of bog paths and the flood walkways of Venice. It features Welsh-language poetry and a sound installation that includes a poem by the 14th-century poet Dafydd ap Gwilym. Their partnership was initiated through the Future Wales Fellowship by Arts Council Wales and Natural Resources Wales. The exhibition's opening aligns with Wales's national election day, supported by curator Steffan Jones-Hughes and project manager Catherine Spring, with additional live events planned beyond Venice.
