MAM Rio and UNESCO Host International Education and Museums Conference in October 2026

institutional · 2026-09-21

On October 30 and 31, 2026, MAM Rio will hold the International Conference Education and Museums in collaboration with UNESCO. The meeting connects to the historic UNESCO Seminar on the Educational Function of Museums, held at MAM Rio in 1958, the year the Bloco Escola opened as the first part of the museum's permanent headquarters. Over two days, the conference will bring together educators, museum managers, and cultural professionals for lectures, debates, roundtables, and performances. The initiative proposes a space for reflection on the possibilities of educational practices in museums and on contemporary challenges in building futures for MAM Rio, reaffirming its institutional commitment to civil society. The conference is structured around three concepts: museums as spaces of research and training; experimental practice and alternative pedagogies; and democracy and the construction of a social museology. Participants are invited to build collectively. The program is in-person and free, with no registration required and passwords distributed 20 minutes beforehand at the Bloco Escola.
