Malta Biennale 2026 Announces Awards Including Italian Artist Concetta Modica

The Malta Biennale 2026 has revealed its award recipients during its second edition. The Maltese Falcon prizes were presented on March 13 at St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta. Italian artist Concetta Modica and Maltese artist Therese Debono jointly received the best artwork award. The best pavilion award went to 'Redefining. Polish Ghanaian Textile Narratives' curated by Natalia Bradbury. An international jury including Gerardo Mosquera, Monica Narula, and Irene Biolchini selected the winners. The biennial opened to the public on March 14 and runs until May 29, 2026, featuring over 130 artists from 43 countries across 11 heritage sites in Malta and Gozo. Artistic director Rosa Martínez leads the exhibition with the theme CLEAN/CLEAR/CUT, focusing on Mediterranean geopolitics and cultural exchange.
