Maggie Cowles' debut picture book Table! blends culinary illustration with narrative storytelling

Illustrator Maggie Cowles has released her first picture book Table! through publisher Chose Commune last month. The publication serves as both an artist book for adults and an interactive visual game for children, featuring food-themed illustrations that encourage readers to search for hidden elements within each scene. Cowles' work transforms meals into meaningful stories about shared memories and time spent together, with her renowned table portraits creating feast-like visuals. Specific illustrations in the book include Franklin then Degraw, referencing her childhood on two New York City streets, and Demeter's Baking Lesson from a series based on Greek myths. The book's design by Cécile Poimbœuf-Koizumi and Perrine Serre offers different observational experiences for various audiences.
